Survey: Home-based ‘Telehealth’

By July 15, 2019May 25th, 2021eMS News

A recently adopted state law allows for the expanded use of home-based telehealth services in Colorado. Our partners at the Rocky Mountain MS Center at University of Colorado are in the beginning stages of implementing home-based telemedicine services.

Through this service, some patients would be able to connect with their neurologist or advanced practitioner for certain types of follow-up appointments from their home, through an internet video connection. Currently, these services are covered for patients in Colorado under Medicaid, Tricare, and commercial insurances. Medicare does not currently cover home-telemedicine services.

Telehealth visits would be initiated by the patient’s provider identifying at an in-person visit that the patient is interested, and that their clinical issue is appropriate for follow up via telehealth.  Through this telehealth visit, patients would connect with their provider using an online program from their home. As this effort is in its very early stages, we would like to get a sense of how interested people would be in using this service.
