Volunteer Spotlight: Gary

Gary VolWeekApril 23-29, 2017 is National Volunteer Week! Please join us as we thank the wonderful volunteers who help us fulfill our mission: To improve the quality of life of individuals and their families living with MS and related neurological diseases through care, support, education and research. #NVW

Gary Sobol has been volunteering at KADEP for two years, twice a week. Gary's dedicated his life to helping people stay fit and healthy, regardless of conditions like MS that might hinder their normal activity and ability to stay active.

Gary established the GZSobol’s Parkinson’s Network in 2013 which is a nonprofit public charity. In other words, Gary does all his hard work out of the goodness in his heart. He created the network after his own diagnosis with Parkinson’s back in February 2008. Through his experience with exercise, he created the class. Gary went from not being able to write a check legibly, to being completely independent because of his own exercises. His personal success was so remarkable that he wanted to share it with others who have disabilities. Since the creation of the organization, he has taught over 1600 classes and has certified more than 300 instructors to lead his ACE certified exercises.

Gary’s exercise classes have improved many individuals’ lives, including clients of KADEP. One client, Bernie Chandler, said, “Gary has changed my life. I walk better and I feel stronger. I would not be where I am today without him. I think he is just great.” Chandler has been taking the class since Gary brought it to KADEP 2 years ago and demonstrates outstanding physical capabilities. She is one of many clients who have been impacted by Gary’s contribution to our program.

The Rocky Mountain MS Center is so grateful that Gary chooses to volunteer with our organization. We appreciate all his time and energy that he donates to our clients. Our programs, events, and educational activities would truly not be possible without the help of amazing volunteers like Gary.
