The Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Center, founded in 1978, is an independent non-profit organization located in Englewood, Colorado. As well as serving individuals living with MS in the Rocky Mountain region, it is also a valuable national and international resource for cutting edge MS information and research. Its mission is: to help people living with MS and their families lead a quality life by providing individualized care, support, education and research.

Celebrating 30 Years

Timothy Vollmer This year, the Rocky Mountain MS Center proudly celebrates 30 years of service to the community. With this milestone comes exciting news of expansion and new leadership. Beginning August 1, 2008, Dr. Timothy Vollmer joined the Center as Medical Director. Widely recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in multiple sclerosis, Dr. Vollmer brings 26 remarkable years of experience to the Rocky Mountain MS Center. In addition to serving as Medical Director, Dr. Vollmer has joined the faculty of the University of Colorado School of Medicine and also serves as Co-Director of the Rocky Mountain MS Center at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Dr. Vollmer’s relocation to Colorado follows six years as the Van Denburgh Professor at Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) in Phoenix, Arizona where he served as Director of the Neuroimmunology and MS Programs. He built BNI’s MS Program to include a large clinic, an active lab investigating antigen-based therapies, a vibrant clinical research program, and an international registry collecting data on over 32,000 patients. Under his leadership, the Institute’s MS Program was honored as a Center of Excellence by the Consortium of MS Centers. Dr. Vollmer received his doctorate of medicine from Stanford University School of Medicine and is a former faculty member of Yale School of Medicine.

By combining patient care services, education and research into one comprehensive program, the MS Center accomplishes its mission and improves the quality of life for MS patients. This multi-faceted approach to chronic disease has served as a model for other institutes around the country.
