  • Rehabilitation Clinic  ( 0 items )

    Rehabilitation Clinic

The Rehab Clinic is designed to provide a thorough evaluation in a short period of time. Individuals experiencing problems in physical, psychological, and cognitive functioning are ideal candidates for this interdisciplinary clinic.

During the clinic, rehabilitation professionals meet individually with clients and family members to complete assessments. After assessments are completed, the team meets to discuss client-centered treatment recommendations. The team is led by Karen Theriot, MD,  a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, and includes a licensened occupational therapist, a physical therapist, a speech-language pathologist, and a clinical social worker.

The professionals work with the client and family to assure recommendations fit within their goals and resources. When indicated, referrals are made to appropriate resources in the community.

Individuals with documented MS who need assessment in two or more areas of function are appropriate for referral. If you or someone you know seems appropriate, ask your physician for a referral to the clinic. You may also call the Rocky Mountain MS Center for more information about the clinic or discuss your needs 303-788-4030 X103.

  • Complimentary & Alternative Medicine (CAM)  ( 0 items )
    Overview and Features

Welcome and thank you for your interest! This site is run by the Rocky Mountain MS Center, a non-profit corporation located in Colorado.

Click here to login and access the MS-Cam web site

Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is becoming increasingly popular, especially among people with chronic diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS). Unfortunately, objective and accurate CAM information related specifically to MS is difficult to find. Accordingly, we built this Site.

Our community currently consists of 24,788 people, 16,749 of whom have registered as having MS. These users contribute information about their experiences with MS, mostly as it relates to CAM, in an effort to provide some guidance to others. In other words, we are attempting to measure the community's experience with MS so that this information is available to you.

In addition, we regularly review the published literature on the subject and summarize that information. (To learn more about our methodology, click here.) The "New and Updated Reviews," a section that will continue to grow, contains hyperlinks to the abstracts of the articles that were used as the basis for the reviews.

There are three ways that you can help with our project First, you can participate in the surveys that we have developed. This will increase the available information to the community of people with MS and researchers.

Second, you can forward information about this site to others who have MS. This too will increase the quality of our information. And third, you can donate the requested $30 annual subscription fee. The money will be used to maintain and improve the information and features contained in this site.

    Our mission includes the following:
    • To create a worldwide community of people interested in CAM and MS;
    • To provide accurate, unbiased, and up-to-date information about CAM and MS; and
    • To measure the experiences of our community with particular CAM therapies and other subjects of interest to people with MS.
This Site is in its infancy. Many forms have CAM have yet to be reviewed. Please register and check the site often for changes.

MS is a very serious disease and should neither be self-diagnosed nor self-treated. Nothing in this site should be viewed as a substitute for visiting your health care provider and using FDA-approved medications. Please read our disclaimer and copyright information.
  • Tissue Bank  ( 5 items )

Tissue BankThe Rocky Mountain MS Center Brain & Tissue Bank and Donor Program is a link between the community and MS research laboratories around the world.

Since 1976 the scientific studies conducted with Rocky Mountain MS Center tissue samples have led to several key discoveries and 127 publications. The Tissue Bank has accumulated samples and distributed specimens to 180 investigators.

Currently 1100 people with MS have consented to be donors in the event of their death. The Tissue Bank also accepts donations of brain tissue from people who do not have MS; this control tissue is an essential research resource. All research tissue recovery is done at no cost to the patient or family.

The decision to donate one’s own body to research is an extremely profound one with many social, moral and religious implications. The Rocky Mountain MS Center commends participants for their dedication to research and help in finding the cause of and cure for MS.

The Rocky Mountain MS Center Tissue Bank and the Human Brain & Spinal Fluid Resource Center, funded in part by the National MS Society, collaborate to provide a wider range of available research tissue.
