RMMSC at CU: Strong Presence at Largest International Gathering of Neurologists

Last month, the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Conference was held in Vancouver, British Columbia. The AAN Conference is the world’s largest gathering of neurologists, bringing together more than 10,000 neurology professionals from across the globe to discuss cutting-edge research, and take part in top-rated education programing across a wide variety of topics.

Our medical team at Rocky Mountain MS Center at University of Colorado was prominent at the AAN Conference. Our doctors, including Dr. Timothy Vollmer, Dr. John Corboy, Dr. Augusto Miravalle, Dr. Enrique Alvarez, Dr. Teri Schreiner, Dr. Jeffrey Bennett, and Dr. Justin Honce, were part of plenary sessions, delivered multiple platform presentations, taught courses, and presented several research posters. Recognized as an international Center of Excellence, our team members were sought out by colleagues from around the world.

Plenary Sessions

Drs. John Corboy and Timothy Vollmer each delivered a plenary session at the AAN Conference. 

Dr. Corboy’s presentation is titled Correct Diagnosis of MS: The Trump Card, and was in response  to a paper entitled The Spectrum of Multiple Sclerosis Misdiagnosis in the Era of McDonald Criteria: A Multicenter Study by Dr. Andrew Solomon at the University of Vermont.

In the Controversies of Neurology section, Dr. Vollmer delivered a presentation entitled Is Early Aggressive Treatment a More Beneficial Approach Than Escalation of Treatment for Most Patients with MS? The presentation was in a debate-style format with Dr. Brian Weinshenker  at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota .

Platform Presentation

Presentations

Anastacia Wall, PA-C, Advanced Practice Provider, delivered a presentation entitled, Neurologist-led Team-based Care: A Physician Assistant’s Perspective and presented on a panel discussing the topic  of How to work with an Advanced Practice Provider.

In the MS Section meeting, neurologists discussed Dr. Augusto Miravalle’s paper entitled Practice Guidelines for the Management of Pain in MS.
