Timothy L. Vollmer, MD
Medical Director, Rocky Mountain MS Center
Co-Director, Rocky Mountain MS Center at Anschutz Medical Campus

Widely recognized as one of the world’s leading experts in multiple sclerosis, Dr. Vollmer brings 26 remarkable years of experience to the Rocky Mountain MS Center. In addition to serving as our Medical Director, Dr. Vollmer is a faculty member at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and Co-Director of the Rocky Mountain Center for MS Care and Research, a collaborative effort of the University of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain MS Center. He joins us following six years as the Van Denburgh Professor at Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) where he served as Director of the Neuroimmunology and MS Programs. He built BNI’s MS Program to include a large clinic, an active lab investigating antigen-based therapies, a vibrant clinical research program, and an international registry collecting data on over 32,000 patients. Under his leadership, the Institute’s MS Program was honored as a Center of Excellence by the Consortium of MS Centers. Dr. Vollmer is a graduate of Stanford University School of Medicine and a former faculty member at the Yale School of Medicine.

 

Karen Wenzel, MA, CTRS|CPRP
Executive Director
Rocky Mountain MS Center

Karen has been with the Center since 1991. She began as the Director of the adult day care program (KADEP) and was appointed Executive Director of the Rocky Mountain MS Center in 2003. With Karen at the helm, the Center’s endowment has tripled, and the number of patients and families we serve has increased more than tenfold. Karen is a graduate of the University of Colorado with degrees in Psychology and Therapeutic Recreation. She went on to receive her Master’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation. She is the recipient of numerous national awards including the Distinguished Service Award from the National Therapeutic Recreation Society, the highest honor in the profession.

 

John R. Corboy, M.D.
Professor of Neurology, University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine
Co-Director, Rocky Mountain MS Center at Anschutz Medical Campus.

Born in Chicago, Dr. Corboy did his undergraduate, medical school, and Neurology training at the University of Pennsylvania, and completed his postdoctoral fellowship in neurovirology and provided clinical care to MS patients at the John Hopkins University School of Medicine. He specialized in MS and neurovirology at the University of Minnesota Medical Center before coming to Colorado in 1994. In 1997, he founded the University of Colorado Multiple Sclerosis Center, and has built it into a multidisciplinary group offering state-of-the-art care and research to MS patients. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and is an elected member of the American Neurological Association and AOA, the medical school honor society.

 

Tom Stewart, JD, MS, PA-C
Director of Programs and Services

Mr. Stewart received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, his J.D. from Boston College Law School, and his Master of Science degree at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Mr. Stewart is a Certified Physician Assistant.

 

Pat Daily, LCSW
Director of Counseling and Support Services

Ms. Daily received her Master's Degree in Social Work from Smith College. She has worked with individuals with MS and their families for over fourteen years. She is a nationally renowned speaker, has co-authored a medical text book chapter and is published in several professional journals.


 

Donald H. Gilden, M.D.

Director of the MS Basic Science Research Program,
Rocky Mountain MS Center at Anschutz Medical Center

Dr. Gilden joins the leadership team through our powerful alliance with the University of Colorado and our joint creation of the Rocky Mountain Center for MS Care and Research. Dr. Gilden is an extraordinary leader and a preeminent neurologist, both in his clinical practice and in the highly innovative, state-of-the-art research on MS which he directs in the Department of Neurology. Dr. Donald Gilden received his BA from Dartmouth College, his MD from the University of Maryland, completed Neurology residency at the University of Chicago and postdoctoral fellowship in neurovirology at Johns Hopkins. He was Professor of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia before moving to Colorado where he has served as Professor of Neurology and Microbiology and Chairman of the Department of Neurology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine for the past 22 years. He is a member of numerous professional and scientific societies and has published more than 290 papers, reviews and chapters. His most recent awards include the Pioneer Award from the International Society for NeuroVirology and his prestigious election to Honorary Membership in the American Neurological Association (both in 2007), and the 2008 Honor Award and Gold Key from the University of Maryland School of Medicine for outstanding contributions to medicine and distinguished service to mankind.
